Quality Use of Medicines

The Quality Use of Medicines Program aims to reduce preventable harm from medication errors.

Who are we?
The Quality Use of Medicines Program strives to achieve our vision through collaboration on strategy and policy development with

  • international, national and statewide patient safety bodies
  • Ministerial and departmental programs in Victoria
  • Victorian health services

The Victorian Medicines Advisory Committee advises the Quality Use of Medicines Program on the development, dissemination, implementation and evaluation of Quality Use of Medicine initiatives in Victorian Health Services. The QUM Program then leads and coordinates these initiatives.

What do we do?
The Quality Use of Medicines Program, in conjunction with the VMAC has identified five top priorities:

Priority

Initiatives

Standardisation of systems for safe prescribing, administration and supply of medicines throughout the medication management cycle

Analysis of data, identifying risks and recommending actions

Feedback to and from health services and local, national and international bodies on QUM initiatives

E-medication management

Risk management of high risk medicines

How do we do it?
