Issues paper on components of safety and quality education for health services 2003Page content: Overview | Download document OverviewTo inform discussion on potential topics to be pursued within VQC strategic area 4, encompassing the development of a consistent approach to the delivery of training and education. The VQC strategic plan states: “ Council will educate and train target groups on safety and quality principles and practices. Target groups will include health service boards and executives, managers, clinicians, ethics committees, health insurers, faculty deans, coronial services, health professional colleges, Council members, consumers and the community”. Currently, some of the tasks identified in this strategic area are being implemented, in the form of workshops on specific issues such as clinical governance and pressure ulcers. Conferences sponsorships have been allocated to health service clinicians and the travelling fellowship program is being finalised. An overall approach to education is currently being discussed by the Education working group in conjunction with key stakeholders. This paper provides a brief literature review on current adult and QI education issues to assist Council to decide on the appropriate topics and approach, both for the education strategy overall, and when implementing specific Council projects in health care organisations. It may also be of use to health services in reviewing and developing their own safety and quality education programs. Download document
