VQC Stakeholder Evaluation

Page content: Background | Download

Background

After almost six years of operation the VQC recommended to the Department of Human Services that a ‘stakeholder’ evaluation be commissioned to:

  • Ascertain the extent to which the VQC has achieved its objectives
  • Identify improvement opportunities for the VQC
  • Consider potential models of operation for the VQC to best promote, impact on and sustain, state-wide quality and safety improvements in health care in the future.

The evaluation was conducted by the Nous Group and its key components included:

  • a national and international jurisdictional review on arrangements to promote and enhance safety and quality
  • stakeholder interviews with VQC Council members, the DHS Executive, Universities, Consultative Councils, Professional Bodies and health service staff (incl. CEO’s, Board members, Quality Managers, Directors of Nursing and Directors of Medical Services)
  • a self administered survey of public health services.

A report providing a detailed summary of the evaluation findings and options for the future model of the VQC is now available.

Based on the findings of the evaluation The Minister for Health has appointed a third term of the VQC with an extended four year term, a smaller membership and new Terms of Reference with a focus on delivering sustainable system wide improvements.
