Patient Review Panel

The Patient Review Panel is established under part 9 of the Assisted Reproductive Treatment Act 2008 (ART Act). The ART Act was passed in the Victorian Parliament on 4 December 2008 and came into operation on 1 January 2010. This site describes the operations of the Panel.

The role of the Patient Review Panel is to determine complex and sensitive applications for medical treatment or procedures that procure or attempt to procure pregnancy in a woman by means other than sexual intercourse, including in-vitro fertilisation and artificial insemination.

The Patient Review Panel is independent of the operation of assisted reproductive treatment providers. It is also independent of the Department of Health. The purpose of the Patient Review Panel is to fulfil the below expectations:
