General InformationThe Department of Human Services (DHS) is responsible for
DHS administers the registration system for private hospitals and day procedure centres and is responsible for the processing of applications relating to registration, transfer or renewal of registration, and construction/alterations of private health facilities. DHS is also responsible for providing advice and information to the sector on how services may achieve better compliance with the provisions of the relevant legislation, that is, the Health Services Act 1988 (the Act) and the Health Services (Private Hospitals and Day Procedure Centres) Regulations 2002 (the Regulations). The Department monitors the performance of private hospitals and day procedure centres with regard to the Act, and conducts site visits of registered facilities.
