Review of Naturopathy and Western Herbal Medicine - 2003

In 2002-03, the Department of Human Services funded a study of the practice of naturopathy and Western herbal medicine (WHM). 

The study was undertaken by a consortium of researchers:

The aim of the study was to investigate and understand the practice of naturopathy and WHM in Australia and make recommendations on the need, if any, for measures to protect the public.   The objectives of the study were:

The final report of the study was released on 14 August 2006 and can be accessed below.

The Department invited submissions from interested parties on the report of the study and its findings and recommendations. 

Submissions closed on 31 October 2006.

The report has now been referred by the Department to the Australia Health Ministers Advisory Council (AHMAC) for consideration.
