Chinese Medicine Registration Act Implementation, 2000
The Chinese Medicine Registration Act 2000 was developed following an extensive consultation process commenced in 1995 as part of the then Victorian Department of Health and Community Services Review of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Victoria was the first Australian state to register Chinese medicine practitioners.
The Chinese Medicine Registration Act 2000 provided for the registration of Chinese herbal medicine practitioners, acupuncturists and Chinese herbal dispensers. While that Act has been repealed by the Health Professions Registration Act 2005, which came into effect on 1 July 2007, its key reforms in respect of the regulation of Chinese medicine practitioners are retained in that Act.
