Notification to the Victorian Perinatal Data Collection (VPDC)
The hospital, birthing centre (or private practitioner in cases of home births) where the birth occurs is responsible for sending the data to the VPDC as part of the mandatory reporting requirement.
The midwife attending each birth of at least 20 weeks gestation completes a standardised birth report - form (A) either manually or via a hospital computer system. There are approximately 63,000 births notified in Victoria each year.
