- What is reported?
The Victorian Health Services Performance website lists recent hospital and health service activity. Information is made available that is designed to be useful and timely. Activities and measures reported include waiting times for elective surgery and emergency care - as these measures are of significant public interest.
- How do I navigate the website?
- The Victorian Health Service Performance site is organised so that you can take multiple paths to information. The same content may appear in multiple sections, because people navigate through the site in different ways.
This site organises the majority of its content by broad topic areas. Each area contains the latest performance data both at the state level and by individual hospital and health service.
The primary categories are:
- Emergency Care
- Elective Surgery
- Dental Care
- Patients treated
- Quality and Safety
- Mental health
- Publications
- Contacts
- How do I find information about Elective Surgery?
For instance if you require a Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (heart surgery) and wish to find a list of the hospitals that perform this procedure and the typical waiting time at these hospitals you would:
- Step 1. Select your topic area Elective Surgery
- Step 2. Time to treatment from the drop down list
- Step 3. Coronary Artery Bypass Graft from a complete list of elective surgery procedures.
This page will tell you the latest data on how long it took for 50% of patients waiting for this surgery to be treated at the hospitals that carry out this procedure.
The website also provides information on the number of patients who have had a Coronary Artery Bypass Graft at the hospitals that perform the procedure. To navigate to this data:
- Step 1. Select topic area Elective Surgery
- Step 2. Patients treated by specialty from the drop down list
- Step 3. Coronary Artery Bypass Grafts from the list of procedures.
- How do I find current Emergency Department information?
From the home page, you can also find out the current status of Victoria’s public Emergency Departments.

This page will tell you whether a hospital is on ‘bypass’ where some ambulances are being diverted or is on Hospital Early Warning System (HEWS). HEWS occurs where there is a likelihood that bypass criteria may be reached within the next hour.
On this page you will also find the estimated wait time for patients who present to each hospital that has a 24 hour Emergency Department. This estimated waiting time only applies to non-urgent patients.
