Overview

Over 150 people attended a lunch time forum, Partnerships making a difference, on Monday 28 April 2008, at the DHS, 50 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne.

The audience heard that partnerships are making a difference to Victorians with complex needs.

The forum highlighted the Primary Care Partnerships initiative and how cross-sector programs can work in practice.

A range of speakers from varying backgrounds presented at the forum including:

• Fran Thorn, Secretary, who said that Primary Care Partnerships facilitated integration across human services.
• Dr C W Brook, Executive Director, Rural and Regional Health and Aged Care Services, who was master of ceremonies and provided the background to the Primary Care Partnerships strategy.
• Micheil Brodie, Acting Executive Director, Office and Gaming and Racing, Department of Justice, who highlighted their partnership with the Department of Human Services to respond to the need of Victorians with problem gambling issues.
• Jim Killeen, Chief Executive Officer Whitehorse Community Health Service, who presented on the work of Eastern Metro Region Primary Care Partnerships implementing agreed systems of care across organisations for people with type two diabetes.
• Clare Amies, Chief Executive Officer Western Region Health Centre, who talked about building on their existing service integration through Primary Care Partnerships to support people with a refugee background.
