Overview
More than 250 senior representatives from health and community services,
Primary Care Partnerships, Information Communication Technology Alliances,
peak bodies, and Government attended the Better care – going forward
with e-health forum on Monday 18 June 2007.
Forum participants heard about state and national developments in e-health, including e-referral and e-discharge, and how these developments are supporting Victoria’s health sector to deliver improved and more coordinated services.
The Secretary, Department of Human Services (DHS), Fran Thorn, launched the Victorian Service Coordination Practice Manual. This manual means that for the first time over 800 health and community service agencies ‘in Victoria (and in Australia) will have a state-wide agreement about how agencies will work together for the benefit of consumers’.
Robbi Chaplin, CEO, Inner South Community Health Service stated that this statewide protocol for Service Coordination will mean that ‘a client can walk into a health service in Swan Hill or St Kilda and be assessed without having to repeat their story’.
The Secretary thanked the Statewide PCP Chairs Working Group for coordinating the development of this manual.
Other highlights from the forum included:
- Presentations and workshops from the sector
- Dr Ian Reinecke’s, Chief Executive Officer, National E-Health Transition Authority, (NEHTA) presentation on the national approach to e-health
- Andrew Howard’s, Chief Information Officer, DHS presentation on the e-health vision and work of the Department
- the Dialogue for the future panel discussion facilitated the ABC’s Dr Norman Swan
