PFC 2005 - Aims of the Collaborative

The aim of the Patient Flow Collaborative is to improve patient access and quality of care provided to patients. The collaborative will reduce delays to the patient's journey and improve access across key areas of the health service.

The key aims of the Patient Flow Collaborative are:

  1. improvements to tackle key constraints in the patient process as identified by each health service
  2. promote and facilitate the development of service improvement skills within health services.

The Patient Flow Collaborative will contribute to:

  • reduce the mean waiting times for emergency admission
  • reduce the mean elective waiting times for elective admission
  • reduce the number of cancelled operations by health services and patients
  • reduce the mean waiting times for diagnostic and therapeutic episodes
    increase discharge planning from admission.
