Promotion of the Charter

Overview

The Hon John Thwaites MP, Minister for Health launched the Public Hospital Patient Charter at the Western Hospital on 12 June 2002.

Approximately approximately 120 people attended the launch from hospitals, community services, consumer groups and representatives from multicultural communities and enhanced awareness and knowledge about patient rights and responsibilities.

The Department is actively encouraging public hospitals to adopt the principles of the Charter into their local environments. It is important to raise awareness and knowledge of the Charter across Victoria.

The promotion of the Charter can occur in several ways including:

  • Hospitals and other organisations organising promotional activities of the Charter through a launch, workshops or formal presentation;
  • A launch, workshop or formal presentations could be targeted to hospital staff only or may also include community organisations and key local representatives;
  • Sending correspondence to all hospital staff and key relevant organisations the hospital may regularly deal with to encourage the promotion, use and implementation of the Charter; and
  • Identifying other events already occurring within the hospital and local area where the Charter could be promoted.
