CommunicationCommunication strategies are an essential component of managing any infectious disease outbreak and will be essential in the event of a pandemic. Effective communication during the preparedness, response, and recovery phases is vital to minimise the impact upon the social and economic infrastructure of Victoria. A Whole of Victorian Government strategy has been developed to guide the communication efforts across government in preparing for and responding to a human influenza pandemic. The communication strategy maximises stakeholder engagement and existing networks by targeting a distinct but diverse group of key influencers who will channel the appropriate messages and planning actions through to their respective sectors. These key influencers include government departments, the health sector, local government, emergency services, infrastructure services, community services and business associations. The Victorian strategy supports and is consistent with the Australian Government's communication strategy which is available at the Department of Health and Ageing website.
