Grants to Promote Access to Community Based Palliative Care

1. Background

On 10 October 2001, the Minister for Aged Care announced additional one off funding of $270,000 that was distributed equally between the nine DHS regions for community based palliative care.

2. Purpose of Grants

The grants funded projects that promote access to community-based palliative care which:

  • Promote awareness of and access to services by people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds and, foster culturally sensitive palliative care services through staff training and support;
  • Improve access to community-based palliative care services in rural Victoria; and
  • Provide resources and support for the involvement of general practitioners in community-based palliative care.

This project involved the production of a video that describes the key factors and array of multidisciplinary services available for community-based palliative care. The video is available in 10 languages and is in use at Banksia Palliative Care Service and Melbourne Citymission.
