Specialist Clinics Improvement and Innovation Strategy Governance Structure

The Outpatient Improvement and Innovation Advisory Committee was established to provide high-level advice regarding outpatient services reform, to provide specific recommendations to support strategy development and to inform the development of a work plan.  

The Specialist Clinics (formerly ‘Outpatient’) Improvement and Innovation Strategy Advisory Committee (the Advisory Committee) is a Departmental Advisory Committee. The terms of reference for the committee are to provide advice and make recommendations to the department on the strategy and to develop a work plan regarding:

  • Access to specialist clinics services
    Address barriers to timely access and investigate factors influencing long waits for appointments.

  • Clinical service improvement
    Develop care and patient pathways for targeted specialties with long waits or high volumes of referrals, incorporating new ways of working and improved interfaces with primary care.

  • Business processes
    Address system blockages to streamline service delivery and undertake re-engineering of outpatient clinic processes and protocols.

  • Funding options
    Investigate funding reform options to improve the adoption of new models of care and to support reform initiatives.

  • The patient experience
    Improve customer service and ensure that the patient’s interface with the outpatient system is as seamless and straightforward as possible, with improved communication and information for patients and treating professionals.

  • Performance monitoring
    Develop key performance indicators to support performance improvement and medium and long-term reform.

The Advisory Committee will review information as presented by Specialist Clinics Services and consider recommendations arising from the sub-committees. The Advisory Committee will be responsible for endorsing program deliverables.

The Chair of the Advisory Committee will communicate directly with the Director, Access and Metropolitan Performance on the ordinary business of the Committee.

Sub-Committees

The Sub-Committees of the Specialist Clinics Improvement and Innovation Advisory Committee will provide advice and make recommendations to the Departmental Advisory Committee in relation to the agreed work plan and issues referred by the Advisory Committee.
