Action in Public Health Nutrition requires a comprehensive and collaborative approach within the health sector and across many other sectors. Some useful links include government sites, non-government health organisations and professional associations.

Victorian State Government
Better Health Channel: healthier living online
Nutrition and many other health topics, local health services, and health events.
Clinicians Health Channel
For health professionals, a password is needed for some access, provides some useful links.
Department of Education & Training
Site includes reports, policies and resources relating to schools and further education. Has an extensive search facility.
Department of Sustainability and Environment
Information on issues for regional and rural communities.
Office for Children
Covers adoption, child protection, childcare, early childhood, family and parenting support, maternal and child health. Provides information for nurses on initiatives, program administration, data collection, resources and newsletters.
DHS Disability Services
Disability services and programs in Victoria.
DHS Home and Community Care
Information on home care in Victoria. Includes publications, reports and program management.
Environmental Health
Site covers a range of environmental health topics including municipal public health planning, fluoridation and water quality.

Commonwealth Government
Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Australia
The Department helps to build and promote the whole food and fibre chain from paddock to plate for domestic and international markets. Provides information on food supply, markets and business.
Food Standards Australia New Zealand
An independent statutory body, which develops food standards. The site gives the latest information on food standards and opportunities to comment on changes. Information on resources is available.
Department of Family and Community Services
Covers areas of social policy including income support, housing, community support, disability services, childcare serves and family issues.
Department of Health and Ageing
Site covers department initiatives and programs, publications and reports. Includes Health Insite, a consumer information site.
National Health and Medical Research Council
Site provides background to the organisation, policy, committees and reports. Information is available on current projects and the development of guidelines, including dietary guidelines. Search facility for publications.
National Public Health Partnership
The National Public Health Partnership provides a formal structure for the Commonwealth, State and Territory governments to develop a joint Australian intergovernmental agenda for public health. The site reports on priority areas in public health including the National Public Health Nutrition Strategy - Eat Well Australia. Documents are provided to assist practitioners in planning and evaluating the evidence in public health.

Cochrane Health Promotion and Public Health Field
A system of systematic review to determine best practice in the field of health promotion and public health, abstracts of reviews are available, organised under topic headings.
Food and Agriculture Organisation
Provides a global perspective on food and nutrition issues, food supply and food safety.
Health Canada
The Canadian government web site has some useful information on public health programs and work in different target populations in Canada.
US Food and Drug Administration
Includes food safety programs and copies of regulations, food programs and selected health topics.
US Five-a-Day Campaign
The 'Eat 5 a Day' web site from the National Cancer Institute, USA gives information and resources from the 5 a day campaign to promote fruit and vegetable consumption.
VicHealth
Site gives information on VicHealth's activities and research in a range of public health areas. Information on targeted population groups that are a VicHealth priority.
World Health Organisation
For public health information in a global context. Site has a search facility of the WHO library. Nutrition topics include regional nutrition programs, emerging nutrition issues, and research.

Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS)
Information on how to access ABS data, products and services.
Australian Institute of Health and Welfare
Independent reports on the state of health and welfare in Australia. Data is available on-line plus a catalogue of publications available.
Australian National University's National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health
Established for research into health issues, the site contains information on staff at the centre and their research interests, summaries of research, which includes past and present theses.
Burden of Disease
Provides access to burden of disease estimates for geographical areas, specific diseases, and age groups of choice, for the Victorian population.
Perinatal
A population surveillance system for babies established to improve health of mothers and babies in Victoria. Published and unpublished data is available to health professionals.

Best Start
With joint auspice of the Department of Human Services and the Department of Education and Training and in partnership with other government departments, the aim of Best Start is to improve local early years service systems. Information for service providers includes current programs and policies, service guidelines, current research, fact sheets and reports relating to health and well being of children.

A report on efficacy of health promotion interventions targeting 12 to 18 year olds. Covers various health promotional strategies in six adolescent health outcome areas (does not include nutrition).

Australasian Society for the Study of Obesity (ASSO)
Provides resource documents on strategies relating to obesity, conference details.
National Institute of Diabetes & Digestive & Kidney Disease
Part of National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, USA
Provides health information including weight loss and control topics with booklets and fact sheets for order and on-line. A summary of literature on obesity (in table form) and statistical data related to obesity such as occurrence, costs, disease relationships etc.

An association to inform, protect and empower consumers. Reports are available online and subscription details.
Better Health - Healthier Living Online
Health information site for consumers. Includes healthy eating and recipes and an 'ask the expert' facility with responses from experts in the area of health.
Arbor Nutrition Guide
The Arbor Nutrition Guide lists and describes many sites related to nutrition.
Nutrition Navigator TUFTS University
Extensive list of web site reviews with ratings. Mostly US organisations.
