Age management is putting into action measures that both combat age barriers and promote age diversity in the workforce. It includes actions that are focused on particular aspects of age management as well as general human resource approaches that create environments where all employees are able to achieve their potential without being disadvantaged by their age.
We want to help health services to be more proactive in understanding and responding to the needs of this section of their workforce.
Through a process of consultation and investigation we have pulled together the literature and the views of older nurses and their managers in a paper:
“Value Added: The wisdom of older nurses at work” (pdf, 1.5mb)
This paper explores the factors affecting workforce participation of older nurses and midwives and provides some practical ideas to begin addressing these issues.
Expressions of interest (EOI) from Victorian public health services and public residential aged care facilities to participate in round 2 of the Value Added intervention projects have now closed. As with the round 1 projects, the successful health services will be required to do a literature review pertaining to their proposed intervention, to better inform their methodology. These reviews will be made available on this website at a later date.
Following an expression of interest process in 2010-11, eight health services were successful in applying for funding to undertake intervention projects using the Business, Work and Ageing Mature Worker Retention model.
Before commencing their proposed interventions, health services were asked to do a review of literature pertaining to their intervention, to better inform their methodology. Those reviews are available here to assist other services.
