Nursing In Victoria

Information for nurses

If you are currently registered:

  • Bringing Nurses Back to the Workforce program
    • You may be eligible for incentive grants under Commonwealth Bringing Nurses Back into the Workforce (BNBW) program.
    • Information, questions and answers and fact sheets on the BNBW program can be found on the Commonwealth Government Department of Health and Ageing web site or by calling toll free on 1300 733 314.

  • Refresher programs
    • Registered nurses who have current registration but have had a break from practice in either general or specialised areas of practice may benefit from a refresher program to update their knowledge and clinical skills.
    • A refresher program underpinned by an individualised learning contract reflecting the needs of both the applicant and the health service is negotiated between the registered nurse and the health service.
    • The Nurses Board of Victoria (NBV) does not approve or accredit these programs, as they do not lead to registration.
    • Public health services are eligible for funding for these programs.

If your registration has lapsed:

NBV manages the registration of nurses and midwives in Victoria. As there have been changes to the recency of practice requirements you should familiarise yourself with the NBV criteria for registration to ensure you are eligible to apply before submitting an application for re-registration with NBV.

Nurses and midwives who have been advised by NBV to undertake a Return to Practice program before re-registering can find information on the NBV website www.nbv.org.au

For questions about registration please contact
