Occupational violence prevention policy framework
On December 5th 2007, The Hon.Daniel Andrews, Minister for Health launched “Preventing occupational violence in Victorian health services: A policy framework and resource kit” together with a commitment of further funding to provide a system- wide approach to prevention of occupational violence in health.
Preventing Occupational Violence In Victorian Health Services provides guidance and direction to public health services about the prevention and management of occupational violence in Victorian health care settings.
It contains the guiding framework and rationale for health services to ensure that safe, healthy and productive workplaces are maintained. It is anticipated that health services will develop specific operational policies/procedures for managing and preventing occupational violence that give effect to the principles outlined in this framework. To assist health services in this process, a resource kit is included in this document, which contains tools that may assist in developing local policies or responses.
A copy of the framework is available:
Occupational Violence Prevention Fund 2008-2011 - Rounds 1 and 2
The Occupational Violence Prevention Fund 2008-2011 has been established to support the implementation of strategies to prevent and manage occupational violence against nurses and other health workers in public health services.
The establishment of the Fund builds on the government’s investment in occupational violence prevention initiatives. These initiatives include regional funding for a dedicated resource to assist rural health services to apply a consistent, focused and system wide approach to better managing occupational violence and funds for the application of CPTED principles in emergency departments and training programs for staff.
It is anticipated that strategies developed using the Fund will include enhancements to design, personnel, equipment, publications and training to achieve sustained improvements to workplace health and safety by preventing occupational violence. Funding rounds 1 and 2 have been completed. At the completion of round 2, over 110 highest priority risks are being remediated and 59 health services have successfully accessed the funds, representing 72% of public health services
A summary of the projects, works and initiatives funded in Round 1 and 2 is available:
