Australian and New Zealand Council of Chief Nurses (ANZCCN) 

The ANZCCN comprises all (10) State/Territory/Commonwealth Government Chief Nurses/ Principal Nurse Advisors  from Australia and New Zealand. The Council meets and teleconferences regularly to:

  • discuss and exchange information on issues affecting Nursing and Midwifery and
  • to facilitate a robust and coordinated approach to policy and practice in order to    promote national consistency in nursing and midwifery in Australia.

Key Messages from September 2009 meeting;

Return to Practice
The ANZCCN has forwarded a Background and Issues paper: " Protecting the Community: Balancing Safety and Risk - Re-Entry to Practice for Nursing and Midwifery in Australia" to the National Nursing and Midwifery Board (NNMB) for its consideration. This paper prepared for the Council by Amanda Adrian has its origins in N3ET work and proposes a framework for a nationally consistent approach to return to practice policy and process necessarily involving education,service and professional regulatory domains.

The ANZCCN continues its discussions on this language measurement tool with regard to its adequacy,frequency and timing of tests, differences between

  1. The ANZCCN has agreed with the Australia and New Zealand Council of Deans of Nursing and Midwifery to continue to collaborate on building the research capacity and capability of nurses and midwives in Australia and New Zealand and on workforce matters generally.
