Undergraduate Rural Clinical Placement Support

Undergraduate students of nursing courses may be eligible for a grant of up to $100 per week (maximum $500) when undertaking rural clinical placements in a Victorian public health service a significant distance from their place of residence.

This initiative was established in recognition of the additional costs associated with undertaking rural clinical placements far from home. Funding is provided to students undertaking clinical placement in a rural health service to assist with travel and accommodation costs.

Students receiving funding support for rural clinical placement must meet all the following criteria:

The student:

  • must be undertaking an undergraduate bachelor of nursing or undergraduate bachelor of midwifery program;
  • is undertaking rural clinical placement in a Victorian public health service (metropolitan placements are ineligible);
  • is undertaking rural clinical placement in a two to five week block;
  • is undertaking rural clinical placement in the second or subsequent year of an undergraduate bachelor of nursing or undergraduate bachelor of midwifery program;
  • is required to travel in excess of 100km each way from their usual place of residence to attend the rural clinical placement;
  • must not be in receipt of any other scholarship or grant for this purpose; and
  • must be an Australian permanent resident or citizen.
Where the demand for funding support is in excess of available funding universities may choose to apply secondary criteria.

Contact your local university for further information about this initiative or other support for undergraduates.
