International Nurse and Midwife Graduates (INMGs) are registered nurses, enrolled nurses and registered midwives who obtained their nursing and/or midwifery qualifications and initial registration in a country other than Australia.

The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) is responsible for determining the appropriate pathway to registration in Australia for INMG’s and has a framework for assessing applications for registration from INMGs. The NMBA may require an INMG to undertake a bridging course before being registered.
NMBA’s current advice is that it will honour letters from former Australian state or territory registration authorities advising INMGs to undertake an approved bridging course.

CultureMate for Nursingis an online resource for nurses and midwives who completed their training overseas as well as educators and preceptors who are supporting INMGs.
Access to CultureMate for Nursing is free to any nurse or midwife working in Victoria. Victorian users should register on the website to gain their free access.
This resource was developed from an innovative Victorian program jointly funded by the former Nurses Board of Victoria (NBV) and the Department and is now available more widely online so it can be completed in your own time.
