Better Health Channel is number one again

The Better Health Channel is Australia’s number one health website for the second consecutive year.

Australia's premier health website, the Better Health Channel, outclassed several major commercial health websites to be awarded the number one position as the most visited health and medical information website in Australia for 2010.

The 2010 Hitwise awards recognise excellence in online performance by measuring the number of visits to individual websites in each industry category. This is the third time the Better Health Channel has received this award.

The department's Manager Health Web Communications Unit, Ms Gerardine O'Sullivan, said the award highlighted that good quality health information was very much in demand.

"People are increasingly turning to the internet to supplement advice from their doctor or health professional," she said.

"They are looking for information they can trust from a site that isn't trying to sell them anything."

Better Health Channel showcases healthy living approaches, as well as providing reliable information on illnesses, conditions and treatments.

The online health market has changed enormously since the Better Health Channel was first launched in 1999. Health is now one of the most searched for topics on the internet with the number of health and medical information websites quadrupling over the past four years.

New-look website

The award-winning Better Health Channel also recently launched its new-look website.

Celebrating its 10th birthday in May 2010, the Better Health Channel underwent a significant redesign, making it even easier to find health information on the web.

The new site looks dramatically different with new interactive features that allow users to:

  • Share their own health hints
  • Get top tips for healthy living
  • Watch videos to see how others manage their health
  • Find health services on their mobile.
