Network meetings and workshops

Connecting our networks

Cancer: 10.00am – 1.00pm: Harrison Room A

This session has been established to inform those working in cancer services and cancer service reform of key projects and initiatives undertaken nationally and internationally. Speakers at this meeting include:

  • Dr Fran Woodard - The role of the network, key challenges & focusing on improvement.
  • A/Prof Damien Jolley - A study to generate & test a system for regular, ongoing & sustainable reporting of cancer clinical indicators across administrative & geographic regions in Victoria & state-wide.
  • A/Prof Michael Coory - A study looking at the utility of routine data sources for feedback on the quality of cancer care: an assessment based on clinical practice guidelines.

A discussion will be held around cancer network implementation and data approached to supporting quality in cancer care. The meeting will facilitate networking of professionals working to improve cancer services.

Cardiac: 10.00am – 1.00pm: Hans Ebeling Room

This session will focus on what is happening nationally and locally to improve cardiology services. Speakers at this session include:

  • Dr Jeffrey Lefkovits, Co-Clinical Lead, Cardiac Clinical Network Victoria
  • Dr Phil Tideman, Clinical Director of ICCnet SA, Deputy Regional Director of Cardiology, Southern Area Health Services
  • Associate Professor Tony Walker, General Manager Regional Services, Ambulance Victoria

A key area of discussion will centre around how cardiology services are working across professional and organisational boundaries to reduce variation in clinical practice and to improve the coordination of care for all cardiac patients.

Workshop – Fostering leadership within clinical networks: 10.00am – 1.00pm: Members Dining Room

Facilitated by Gabrielle O’Brien, this session is designed for health service staff who are interested in furthering their leadership capacity. While at foundation level it is suitable for anyone interested in sharing their experience of leading with other clinicians from across the networks and developing new perspectives on opportunities to take up leadership at all levels.

Diabetes: 2.00pm – 5.00pm: Harrison Room A

This session will focus on a number of cross-jurisdictional issues relating to the delivery of diabetes and chronic disease services. These will include:

  • Delivery of diabetes services to rural and remote areas
  • Improving access to ‘difficult to reach’ populations
  • Enhancing diabetes and chronic disease coordinated care

This session will commence with a presentation by Professor Andrew Morris, University of Dundee, Scotland.
Topic: Connect, share, improve: the role of informatics in chronic care

It will also include a brief showcase of diabetes/chronic disease programs or initiatives by state jurisdictions.

Emergency Care: 2.00pm – 5.00pm: Harrison Room B

The Emergency Care Improvement and Innovation Clinical Network (ECIICN) is hosting this session on ‘Making a difference in emergency care’. Professor George Braitberg, chair of the ECIICN is facilitating this discussion where other states and NICS will share their storeys about their network including their:

  • structure
  • objectives
  • mechanism for engaging the sector
  • examples of activities and ‘wins’

Maternity and Newborn: 2.00pm – 5.00pm: Department of Health, 50 Lonsdale Street

This session focuses on the guideline development processes in each state and territory. Chaired by Professor Jeremy Oates, Clinical Lead of the Victorian Maternity and Newborn Clinical Network the meeting will touch on:

  • What is on the to-do list?
  • Identified gaps
  • Working together to develop guidelines.

Paediatric: 2.00pm – 5.00pm: Hans Ebeling Room

This session focuses on the journey of a paediatric clinical network, the pitfalls, problems and successes. State presentations will be given by:

  • Western Australia
  • South Australia
  • New South Wales
  • Queensland
  • Victoria

Finally a discussion will take place about ‘A National Child Health Policy for Australia’.

Workshop – Facilitating for change: 2.00pm – 5.00pm: Members Dining Room

Facilitated by Dr Fran Woodard from the Southeast London Integrated Cancer Centre, this session focuses on skill building on facilitation for participants that are leading change projects. Facilitation is a key skill for collaborative decision making, particularly when spanning boundaries whether it is between departments, hospitals or across a system. This interactive session will provide participants with an understanding of some approaches/tools to use to analyse problems, gain consensus and develop action plans. This foundation level session will provide a mix of theory and practice on how to facilitate for more effective results.
