Mental health triage scale and guidelines

The mental health triage scale has been developed for use by all Victorian public mental health services, including child & adolescent, adult and aged persons mental health services.  It provides a standardised tool to classify the outcome of triage assessments.

The statewide triage scale will:

• promote greater consistency in the response to consumers, carers and referrers seeking access to mental health services
• provide a basis for improved communication between triage clinicians and other mental health service components
• provide a structured approach to recording outcomes of triage assessments
• provide a basis for statewide monitoring of triage outcomes and identifying areas for service and system improvements
• provide a basis for improved communication and referral pathways between mental health services and other service providers where a specialist mental health response is not required.
