State-wide training providers

The Bouverie Centre (External site)

The Bouverie Centre is a statewide provider of specialist training, consultation and clinical services in the area of working with families. The Centre is auspiced within the Faculty of Health Sciences, La Trobe University and is largely funded by the Mental Health Branch.

Centre for Excellence in Eating Disorders (CEED) (External site)

The Victorian Centre of Excellence in Eating Disorders (CEED) is a key program within the Victorian government's response to the provision of quality services for those with eating disorders. CEED aims to undertake strageties to build quality, sustainable eating disorder treatment responses delivered by public specialist mental health services.

Centre for Psychiatric Nursing (CPN) (External site)

The primary aim of the Centre is to contribute to the ongoing articulation, development and advancement of psychiatric nursing practice in order to strengthen the contribution to enhancing the well-being of consumers of Mental Health Services.

EPPIC (Early Psychosis Prevention and Intervention Centre) Statewide Services (External site)

EPPIC Statewide Services aims to assist Victorian public mental health services in meeting the needs of young people with Early Psychosis through secondary and tertiary consultation, site visits and workshops.

Forensicare (External site)

Forensicare has a comprehensive professional education program, which includes specialist skills training for all staff and other service providers. Professional education activities are developed in liaison and collaboration with relevant agencies and tertiary institutions and are undertaken by consultant psychiatrists, nurses, occupational therapists, psychologists and social workers.

Mental Health Research Institution (External site)

The Mental Health Research Institute's mission is to further knowledge in mental health, behaviour and neuroscience. Researchers work to investigate the nature, origins and causes of psychiatric diseases and apply the knowledge they gain to improve diagnosis, treatment and, ultimately, prevent mental illnesses such as Alzheimer's disease, schizophrenia and depressive illness.

Personality Disorder Service (Spectrum) (External site)

Spectrum provides consultation, training, treatment and research in relation to people with severe and borderline personality disorder who are at risk of serious self-harm or suicide. Spectrum works closely with area mental health services and clinicians to support their work and develop their skills in providing a more effective response.

Victorian Dual Disability Service (VDDS) (External site)

Victorian Dual Disability Service (VDDS) - a specialist mental health service for Victorians with an Intellectual Disabilty. VDDS provides education and training, in line with its brief to support the development of professional skills in the assessment, treatment and management of consumers with a known or suspected dual disabilty. The range of training and educational activities include role specific training, profession specific training, general introduction to the service, academic sessions for undergraduate and graduate programmes and disorder specific programmes. Training calendar with scheduled workshops - see VDDS site above for current dates. VDDS also deliver training locally to AMHS staff upon request.

Psychiatric Disability Services of Victoria - VICSERV (External site)

The Training & Professional Development team at VICSERV have been designing and delivering a range of accredited and non accredited programs for staff at levels in the Psychiatric Disability Rehabilitation Support Services (PDRS) sector since 1994. It also works closely with other mental health organisations and professionals in offering specialist training programs and forums. Training is delivered at the VICSERV training room in Elsternwick or on site at organisations.

Victorian Transcultural Psychiatry Unit (VTPU) (External site)

The VTPU has developed and implemented a number of programs designed to enhance culturally sensitive service design and clinical practice for mental health service staff. The courses are usually of 1-2 days duration and are modified for particular audiences where these might include community health professionals, adolescent mental health services and sexual assault services.

Victorian Dual Diagnosis Initiative Education and Training Unit (External site)

The Dual Diagnosis Education and Training Unit (ETU) has been funded by DHS to develop and deliver dual diagnosis education programs as well as clinical resources across Victoria. The ETU is made up of dual diagnosis clinicians and educational experts and works closely with the four Dual Diagnosis Teams.

Education and Training Clusters

South Eastern Education and Training Cluster - Southern Synergy (External site)

The South Eastern cluster takes a project and developmental perspective in most years. Regular training is provided through cluster members and includes Risk, Suicide Assessment and Management, leadership training and specialist training days and conferences. A special Orientation Kit with CD is available for training of all new staff in South Eastern Education and Training Cluster. In 2008 special workshops are highlighting such areas as Dual Diagnosis, Ethics and Mental Health Care as well as issues such a Gender and Diversity. A regular email newsletter is available from john.julian@med.monash.edu.au that highlights regular local mandatory training as well as specialist training and this is sent out, on average, once a fortnight. The web page will increasingly highlight training and training resources alongside historical and current reports.

Western Cluster (External site)

The Western Cluster delivers a range of training and development initiatives for staff located in western metropolitan and regional mental health services of Victoria.

The Western Cluster aims to provide and deliver a range of training and development initiatives for staff across the cluster, using a collaborative approach and through sharing expertise. North East Cluster (NEVIL) (External site)

The North East Victoria Innovative Learning, Training and Professional Development Cluster (NEVIL) is a Victorian Department of Human Services funded initiative to improve the delivery of mental health services in the eastern metropolitan suburbs and northeast regional Victoria. It does this by providing mental health staff and consumer and carer consultants with ongoing professional development education and training.
