Mental health care: Framework for emergency department services
has been developed by the Department of Human Services to provide direction
for delivery of emergency mental health care in Victoria’s public hospital
emergency departments (EDs). The framework provides a set of overarching
guidelines encompassing the areas of service delivery and clinical care.
The framework is intended to assist health services to:
- plan appropriate emergency department care for people who present
with mental health needs
- promote service coordination and collaboration between specialist
mental health services and emergency departments
- promote best-practice management and care coordination.
