Warning on Bakers Life bread from Victorian Aldi stores
Date: Friday, 7 October 2011
Victorians have been warned not to consume Bakers Life Multigrain Sandwich Sliced Bread (650g) that was sold at Aldi Stories across Victoria today.
Victoria’s Chief Health Officer Dr John Carnie said the manufacturer has advised the Department of Health that the bread was withdrawn from sale due to a contamination.
“People should not eat this product and should either discard it or return it to the point of purchase for a refund,” Dr Carnie said.
“The bread, with a best before date of October 12, could be contaminated with plastic fragments. It is possible the bread may cause injury if consumed.”
Dr Carnie said the affected bread was baked on Friday, 7 October and only sold in Aldi Stories across Victoria the same day.
“Anyone who had consumed the bread and felt unwell should contact their local GP,” Dr Carnie said.
“At this stage there have been no reports of illness associated with this product.”
Dr Carnie said Aldi and the manufacturer are cooperating fully with the Department.
