Service Redesign ResourceHow do we get there?Implementation of your process redesign activities will depend on the performance aspects you want to improve. A simple change might be implemented on the basis of a single conversation or phone call. However, many process redesign projects involve more radical and complex changes, possible involving large numbers of people. You may want to implement the process redesign activity on a small scale to start with eg a pilot project involving one area of the unit with a view to rolling it out more broadly after the pilot has been evaluated. Some redesign activities do not lend themselves to piloting and require full implementation all at once. Using project management tools can help with the implementation of larger scale process redesign activities. A simple to use project planning kit that has been developed by the Innovation Council may be a useful resource when implementing project redesign projects. A more detailed Project management information kit that has been developed for the education sector has also been included here. Some additional tools that may help you through the implementation phase of your project include Gantt charts, PDSA cycles. Continue to collect and monitor your data throughout the implementation phase. Continue to use your run charts or other format you have developed for presenting your data. Depending on the nature of the improvement process, you may encounter some resistance as the process redesign team starts to implement planned changes. Overcoming resistance to change may be helped by developing an understanding of resistance to change. At this point you may like to revisit Lewin’s Force Field Analysis or explore some other ways of dealing with resistance to change. A detailed information kit that overviews process review developed for the education sector can downloaded from the JISCInfonet - UK website. |
