Introduction
The Ministerial Advisory Committee on Gay and Lesbian Health (MACGLH) was
established in April 2000. As part of that process submissions were sought
from Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (GLBTI) organisations
and individuals regarding the major health issues they faced. The MACGLH grouped
the health issues raised into five key areas: physical, sexual and mental health
issues and life stage and drug and alcohol issues.
Research papers were commissioned covering each of these five areas. Edited
versions - along with an introductory paper that develops a framework for understanding
patterns of health and illness common to GLBTI people - were developed by the
MACGLH with input and advice from the Transgender and Intersex Subcommittee.
The edited versions of the papers have been published as a single resource, What's
the Difference? Health Issues of Major health concern to Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual,
Transgender and Intersex (GLBTI) Victorians.
