16 October 2003

Overview

Darebin Arts and Entertainment Centre
Preston, Victoria

The one-day conference coordinated by the Partnership Development Section, Public Health, aimed to highlight and celebrate leading-edge work undertaken by local governments as part of the Municipal Public Health Planning Good Practice Program.

The Good Practice Program was established in conjunction with the release of the municipal public health planning framework, Environments for Health, in October 2001. Environments for Health provides an approach to planning that is consistent with the overall impact on health and wellbeing of factors originating across any or all of the built, social, economic and natural environments.

Sixteen projects from the first round of Good Practice Program funding shared their experiences with others from across the local government sector.

The conference highlighted the findings from the evaluation of the Good Practice Program and launched the ‘Leading the Way Corporate Video’. The corporate video utilises on-site locations to highlight local government integrated planning success stories in both urban and rural settings.

Almost 200 people attended including planners and decision makers from across local government and professionals in public health, social and corporate planning, education, urban design, community health settings and researchers interested in health policy and evaluation.
