World Conference on Health Promotion and Health Education

Overview

The World Conference on Health Promotion and Education was held in Melbourne from 26 – 30 April 2004. The conference is considered the only regular forum for global exchange of information and ideas on health promotion and education and is highly regarded, prominent event. With over 3000 delegates, the event offered a unique opportunity for health promotion practitioners to engage with international practitioners.

The importance of local government was recognized with 77 presentations focusing on its role in promoting health. Victoria’s municipal public health planning program was well represented including DHS Central – oral presentation; Melbourne University evaluation – poster; DHS Southern region – poster; City of Greater Shepparton – oral presentation; City of Melbourne – oral presentation.

The conference was a huge success in informing and energizing delegates, renewing old and forming new friendships, identifying creative tools and initiatives, and a great excuse to have a heap of fun.
