Australia's health system is on alert to detect any possible cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) following reports of SARS cases in China.
The Department of Human Services, an active member of the Communicable Diseases Network of Australia (CDNA) remains alert and will maintain an appropriate level of surveillance and response capacity for SARS.
CDNA and the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing are maintaining information and guidelines for SARS.
New guidelines were published 25 April 2004 at Australian Department of Health and Ageing.

If you believe you have recently been in contact with a person diagnosed with SARS please call the Communicable Diseases Section at the Department of Human Services on telephone 1300 365 677.
Health care workers should contact the Department of Human Services on 1300 651 160 if they require any additional information relating to SARS or are concerned that a patient under their care may have SARS.
