Vaccine preventable diseases are those that can be prevented by vaccines included in the National Immunisation Program Schedule. Non-scheduled diseases that are also vaccine preventable (including cholera, hepatitis A, meningococcal disease, plague, rabies, bat lyssavirus, Japanese encephalitis, Q fever, tuberculosis, typhoid, varicella-zoster infections (chickenpox and shingles) and yellow fever) are not included in this group.
