This edition includes data for the March Quarter, 1997, which covers the months of January, February and March.
This edition includes a feature report on the range of services and the activity level of private health service establishments in Victoria.
Private health service establishments include private hospitals or day procedure centres that are registered under part 4 of the Health Services Act 1988. Currently, there are 102 registered private hospitals and 22 day procedure centres. The registra tion of each specifies prescribed health services offered by the establishment.
The range of services for which the establishments are registered is expanding, and the sector has recorded an increase in activity. Separations from private health estab lishments account for approximately one-third of all inpatient procedures in Victoria, and have increased by 16 per cent between 199495 and 199596. For the same period, separations from the public sector increased by 4.25 per cent.
The information included in this report is often requested from the Department. Since technical information of this nature is very difficult to interpret, each graph and table needs to be carefully considered in the context of the complexity of the health care system. Departmental staff, hospital staff, general practitioners and other health care professionals may be able to assist you to interpret this report.
