HOSPITAL SERVICES REPORT : HOSPITAL IN THE HOME EVALUATION - MAR97
The Future of Home Based Acute Care in Victoria
199697 sees the launch of Phase Two of the Hospital in the Home program. The Government has committed a further $20 million over the next four years to ensure that the choice of home based acute care is available to all Victorians and becomes an integral part of the health care system in this state.
Over the next four years, commencing in 199697, the Department will work to ensure that home based acute care services in Victoria are enhanced by targeting incentive funding to:
- Increase the number of people treated in HITH.
- Ensure that the quality of, and patient satisfaction with, home based acute care remains high.
- Ensure that home based acute care services are cost effective and are viable when incentive funding ends in four years time.
Comparison of HITH Separations: Phase One Versus Phase Two of the HITH Program
There was an average of 2,500 HITH separations in every six months of Phase One, which spanned the 199495 and the 199596 financial years. In Phase Two, there were 4,170 HITH separations for the six month period from July 96 to Dec 96.
