Public Hospitals & Health Services - Capital ProjectsStatewide Projects 2006 / 2007Medical Equipment Program (Acute) - $47.7 millionThe Budget allocates $47.7 million as part of the government’s ongoing commitment to the replacement, upgrade and expansion of medical equipment across Victoria’s public hospital system. The funding will reduce risk to patients, staff and service availability. Statewide Infrastructure Program 2006-07 - $20 millionThe Government continues its commitment to the Statewide Infrastructure Program, allocating $20 million in 2006-07 to improve the quality and standard of infrastructure assets across the State. Funding will support approximately 50 infrastructure renewal projects across a range of agencies to support delivery of clinical services. Ambulance Equipment Program - $3 millionThe Budget provides $3 million to address Occupational Health and Safety risks related to the transport of heavy patients and carriage of heavy equipment. Equipment will be purchased to help mitigate risks associated with ambulance paramedics who are required to lift patients in difficult environments and to fit special purpose vehicles to allow the lifting of heavy patients and the securing of heavy equipment. Pandemic Flu Preparedness - $2.6 millionFunding is provided to strengthen the capability of early diagnostic systems and improve surveillance, and treatment outcomes for patients and to support infection control systems in nine designated metropolitan and rural health services sites through mechanical works upgrades to air handling and ventilation systems. Radiotherapy Equipment Expansion - $2.5 million$2.5 million is provided to expand radiotherapy services by providing an additional linear accelerator. Ambulance Development Plan – $1.775 millionThe Budget allocates a total of $1.775 million for expansion of the Metropolitan Ambulance Service and the Rural Ambulance Service. Funding is allocated to the Metropolitan Ambulance Service to establish a new ambulance crew at Cranbourne North, operating during peak periods. The funding will be used to purchase ambulances and to fit-out the new services. Funding is also provided for Rural Ambulance Victoria to establish a new 24-hour ambulance station at Sebastopol in Ballarat, including purchase of an ambulance and equipment. Emergency Department Facilities Improvement - $1 millionFunding is provided for a range of initiatives to boost emergency services at public hospitals. |
