Subject/s: Public Hospital and Dental Fees

Purpose: The purpose of this circular is to advise hospitals and health insurance funds of the new public hospital and dental fees. H&CS Fees Manual needs to be adjusted accordingly.

This circular is to advise public hospitals and health insurance funds of the new public hospital and dental fees effective from 1 July 1995.

As in previous years, public hospital fees have been adjusted by the March Quarter Australian CPI and dental fees are aligned with the Department Veteran Affairs’ (DVA) Local Dental Officer (LDO) fees.

From 1 July 1995, spectacle fees and boarder charges for non admitted patients will be deregulated. Fees for spectacles, which are predominantly provided at the Royal Eye and Ear Hospital, will now be set in relation to the cost of materials (including the cost of assembling lenses into a spectacle frame). However, prior to setting spectacle fees, H&CS’s approval is required.

As a result of these changes, could you please make the following updates to the Fees and Charges for Acute Health Services in Victoria: A Handbook for Public Hospitals:

  1. Overnight Stay Patients - replace page 2 of part 1, Fees for Admitted Patients. This change is effective from 1 July 1995.

  2. Same Day Patient - replace page 4 of part 1, Fees for Admitted Patients. This change is effective from 1 July 1995.

  3. Pharmaceutical Fees - replace page 2 in part 2, Fees for Non-Admitted Patients. This change is effective from 1 July 1995.

  4. Spectacles Fees - replace page 4 in part 2, Fees for Non-Admitted Patients. This change is effective from 1 July 1995.

  5. District Nursing Fees - replace page 1, in part 3, Fee for Other Services. This change is effective from 1 July 1995.

  6. Nursing Home Fees - replace page 2, in part 3, Fee for Other Services. This change is effective from 1 July 1995.

  7. Dental Fees - replace Appendix B. This change is effective from 1 July 1995.
