Subject: Direct Order - Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIg)
Purpose: To advise hospitals of updated arrangements for Direct Order of Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIg).
Background
This circular:
- Updates the “Alternative Access to IVIg – Jurisdictional Direct Orders (JDO)” notified in Circular 8/2008.
- Replaces the circular “Jurisdictional Direct Order – Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIg)” Hospital Circular 19/2009.
Direct Order - Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIg)
The term ‘Jurisdictional Direct Order’ has been replaced with ‘Direct Order’.
Patients requiring IVIg for conditions that do not meet the ‘Criteria for the Clinical Use of Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIg) in Australia’ (the Criteria) will not have the IVIg subsidised under the National Blood Agreement. The Criteria can be found on the National Blood Authority website.
The National Blood Authority has arrangements with two companies to facilitate the purchase of IVIg for the treatment of conditions not satisfying the Criteria. The Octapharma product Octagam® P is available through DHL Exel by telephoning 1800 077 421 and the Lateral Grifols Pty Ltd product Flebogamma 5% DIF is available by telephoning (03) 9535 9333.
