Subject: Highly Specialised Drugs Program

Purpose: To advise hospitals of changes to the Highly Specialised Drugs Program, effective 1 January 2010.


We have received recent advice from the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing regarding changes to the Highly Specialised Drugs Program, effective 1 January 2010.

ADDED ITEM

TENOFOVIR with EMTRICITABINE and EFAVIRENZ

9650X Tablet containing tenofovir disoproxil fumarate 300mg with emtricitabine 200mg and efavirenz 600mg 30 $1,217.74 Atripla GI

Treatment of HIV infection in patients with:

  1. CD4 cell counts of less than 500 per cubic millimetre; or
  2. viral load of greater than 10,000 copies per mL.
