Hospital Circular 21 /2005

Date Issued: 5 September 2005

Distribution: Public Hospitals

Attention: Public Hospitals, Extended Care Centres, Metropolitan Health Services, and Regional Offices

Subject: Hospital in the Home (HITH) - Public Hospital bedday fee for ineligible patients

Public Hospital Service Prices

Ineligible Patients -

  1. A fee of $204 per bedday will take effect with respect to every ineligible admission for Hospital in the Home (HITH) that occurs on or after 1 July 2005.
  2. This fee is reflective of the less resource intensive nature of providing this service in a home based setting and the need for hospitals to achieve full cost recovery from ineligible patients for this service.
  3. It should be noted that this fee applies only to ineligible patients. Public, TAC, VWA and DVA WIES prices already include a cost component for HITH whilst for private patients, a default hospital outreach service bedday rate is already outlined in the Hospital Fees manual.
  4. If you have any queries in relation to this matter please call Peter Lewis on 9616 9050.
Shane Solomon
Under Secretary, Health
