Making a request
Requests for individual data extracts to meet your requirements
can be made through the VHIRS Helpdesk (contact details are listed
below). It is preferable to specify your request in writing including
as much information as possible. Please remember to include all
your contact details.
Also refer to our conditions of release and destruction of data
documents, available through this website under Terms and Conditions.
For a detailed list of available variables refer to the
data dictionaries for the specific dataset you require. There may be some variables
that change over financial years.
Data is available for the following data sets; hospital episode
data (VAED), emergency presentations (VEMD), elective surgery/waiting
list data (ESIS), mental health data (CMI/ODS), and aggregate patient
and finance data through the Agency Information Management System
(AIMS).
The Department of Human Service’s policy on releasing data
aims to protect the privacy of individuals, small community groups
and private hospitals.
Where aggregate data is published or released to external users,
all cells containing less than 5 separations are suppressed.
Each application for patient level data is considered separately.
Applications that involve potential identification of individuals
will need approval from the Department of Human Services Ethics
Committee.

the required dataset. These manuals provide comprehensive information
for hospitals on source data definitions and reporting requirements.
