Five point HIV action plan

Victoria has the second highest HIV notifications in Australia after New South Wales. The rate of notification is growing.  In 2006 there were 263 HIV notifications - the highest number of annual notifications in 15 years and a 140 percent increase in notifications over the past eight years

To tackle the growing rate of HIV the Victorian Government has developed a five point action plan to boost the state’s HIV and STI prevention efforts.   >> Read more about the five point plan.

One of the components of the five point plan is the work of the Departmental HIV Prevention Taskforce. The Taskforce is working with government to advise on, and advance action, that will better enable community agencies to deliver services, education, testing and prevention programs at the grass-roots level.

To find out more about the work of the Department of Human Services in HIV prevention and education view the links on the left or read this media release from the Minister for Health.

Be part of the solution

Here are two simple ways that all of us can be part of the solution:

  • Protect yourself and your partner by always using a condom.
  • Demonstrate your support for community organisations that work in HIV prevention and education and supporting those living with HIV.

The Department of Human Services is working with the following community partners to implement the five point action plan:
