Spiritual centre opened at Ballarat Health

Ballarat Health Services has officially opened its new Spiritual Centre in a multi-faith commissioning ceremony.

The opening included several ceremonial rituals in the centre and the adjacent Sister Paula Fleming Reflective Garden.

BHS pastoral/spiritual care co-ordinator Jo Niedra said the ceremony was an acknowledgment of the many different beliefs in the community.

‘The Spiritual Centre is a place where people of all faiths and spiritual beliefs, or those with no connection to any faith, can find peace and solitude when needed.’

The Spiritual Centre is located on the ground floor of BHS, via the Sturt Street entrance.

It is a place where patients, their carers, family members and staff can come to seek a quiet moment to reflect, away from the busy schedules of treatments and time spent on the wards.

The centre also offers a Muslim prayer room.

The Sister Paula Fleming Reflective Garden is named in honour of Sister Paula, who spent many years providing spiritual guidance and support to patients of BHS.
