Accolade for Department’s Shelley

The Department’s Senior Public Health Advisor Shelley Bowen has been nominated as one of The Australian Financial Review and Westpac 100 Women of Influence for 2014.

Department Secretary Pradeep Philip said Dr Bowen had been recognised in the public policy category for leading the ground-breaking Healthy Together Victoria initiative.

‘This program, along with her work with high profile chef Jamie Oliver’s Ministry of Food, is delivering tangible outcomes for healthy living among hundreds of thousands of Victorians,’ Dr Philip said.

‘Improving the health of Victorians through a greater knowledge of healthy food choices and the benefits of exercise across all age groups will pay long-term dividends.

‘The announcement has come as a real surprise to Shelley who is currently on holiday in Europe.

‘After her break, Shelley is heading to Wales to confer with colleagues in the Health Ministry there before meeting with Public Health England.

‘I’m sure you’ll join me in congratulating Shelley and wish her well for the awards night on October 22 in Sydney when the overall and category winners will be announced,’ Dr Philip said.
