Guide to quality and safety
Health Minister Daniel Andrews
launched Enhancing Patient Care: a Practical Guide to Improving Quality and
Safety in Hospitals, by Horsham-based clinicians Associate Professor Alan Wolff
and Sally Taylor of the Wimmera Health Care Group.
‘This book provides a clear and
concise guide to developing frameworks to assist clinicians with sound quality
and safety programs within their services.
‘The authors have more than 20
years’ combined experience in this field and their book begins with a
comprehensive literature review, before taking the reader step by step through
the practical processes of implementing the necessary systems in their
healthcare centre.’
It follows a quality and safety
program created by Associate Professor Wolff, the Wimmera Health Care Group’s
Director of Medical Services, and Ms Taylor, the group’s Clinical Risk Manager.
Associate Professor Wolff said
they had reviewed the extensive quality and safety literature in health care
and combined this information with the practical lessons learned while
developing and implementing their program over two decades.
‘Our experience at a regional
Victorian hospital has led to a pragmatic framework that guides health services
through the relevant evidence and theory, down to the finest details,’
Associate Professor Wolff said.
‘Wimmera Health Care Group’s
clinical risk management program started in 1989 and has reduced adverse events
and improved the quality of care to patients.’
