Gynaecology expert joins Royal Women’s Hospital

The Royal Women’s Hospital has a new Chair of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

The Women’s and the University of Melbourne have jointly appointed internationally-recognised gynaecologist Professor Martha Hickey to the position.

She will also be Clinical Head of the Menopause Unit.

Professor Hickey, who is currently with the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department of the University of Western Australia, will take up her new post in January.

She trained in Psychology and Medicine in both Australia and the UK specialising in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

The Women’s Chief Executive Officer Dale Fisher said Professor Hickey had an outstanding research record in the field of gynaecology, particularly menopause and women’s health after cancer surgery.

‘Her clinical and research interests will add considerably to the overall objectives of The Women’s to provide the best quality of care for all aspects of the health of women and newborn babies,’ she said.

Professor Hickey has a NH&MRC Clinical Career Development Award and holds an adjunct appointment at Yale University, USA.
