The Heart Foundation has launched a promotion campaign featuring the Director of Southern Health’s MonashHeart Professor Ian Meredith.

Under the banner Will you recognise your heart attack?, the Warning Signs initiative aims to save lives by helping Victorians recognise the warning signs of heart attack and the importance of calling Triple Zero (000)—fast!

The campaign includes a multi-layered advertising campaign including television commercials as well as radio and print advertising.

A website—www.heartattackfacts.org.au—has clearly-defined warning signs of heart attack and action prompts.

‘It was a great honour for Southern Health to be invited by the Heart Foundation to host the launch,’ Southern Health Chief Executive Shelly Park said.

‘We are no strangers to working together, recently helping develop the 2009 Heart Foundation Evidence Based Guidelines for Assessing Absolute Cardiovascular Risk.

‘As Victoria’s largest public health service, we know cardiovascular disease is one of the greatest causes of premature death and illness in Australia.

‘We are proud to say our cardiology service—MonashHeart—is a recognised leader in the field.

‘It is also Victoria’s largest provider of acute cardiac services, treating more than 5,700 patients from Melbourne’s south-east, Gippsland, interstate and overseas.’

Professor Meredith, also a member of the Heart Foundation (Victoria) Board of Directors, said anyone suspecting a heart attack should dial 000 right away.

‘No two heart attacks are the same and we urge all Victorians to remember—if you think you could be having a heart attack call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

‘The ambulance paramedics are there to help you.

‘If you are with a person you think could be having a heart attack, acting quickly to call Triple Zero (000) could save the life of your loved one,’ Professor Meredith said.

The Warning Signs campaign runs in Melbourne and Geelong until December 6.
