Austin applauds its graduate nurses

Austin Health has hosted its first end-of-graduate-year celebration to recognise nurses who successfully completed last year’s program.

The graduates received certificates alongside family and friends.

The cohort nominated fellow nurses for the graduate nurse peer recognition award and clinical educators, nurse unit managers and ward staff put forward nominations for graduate of the year.

Both awards recognised the excellence demonstrated during the first year of clinical practice.

Kaitlyn Meszaros won the graduate nurse peer recognition award.

‘Kaitlyn was described by her peers as an inspiring graduate nurse who was forever asking questions to all members of the multidisciplinary team and constantly gaining knowledge, which has shaped her into an amazing nurse,’ said graduate nurse co-ordinator Jane Warneke.

Jacquelyn Flynn won the graduate of the year award.

Ms Flynn was recognised for not only continually building on her knowledge and skills during her rotation on the acquired brain injury unit but wanting to share this knowledge with others.

She realised that her new skills and knowledge were transferable and is developing a toolkit for her colleagues in the Olivia Newton-John Cancer, Wellness and Research Centre.
